Selçuk YAŞAR
Born in Rhodes on January 17, 1925, Selçuk Yaşar completed his secondary and high school education at Saint Joseph French High School in İstanbul, and graduated from İzmir Academy of Commercial Sciences in 1948.
Selçuk Yaşar is the founder and Honorary Chairman of Yaşar Holding A. Ş., a leading name in the Turkish economy covering over 25 companies and 3 foundations, and offering employment to 6. 700 people.
Having ventured into the business life in his father\'s shop, in 1954, Yaşar established DYO, Turkey\'s first paint manufacturing factory. The following years saw many investments in numerous fields of industry, all marking pioneering initiatives in Turkey, including the following:
- First private beer factory (TÜRK TUBORG)
- First printing inks production plant (DYOSAD)
- First UHT milk and packed dairy products plant (PINAR SÜT)
- First private sector fertilizer plant (EGE GÜBRE)
- First spring water botteling facility (PINAR SU)
- First private sector integrated meat plant (PINAR ET)
- First fish and seafood cultivation farm (PINAR DENİZ)
- First 1.100 beds capacity holiday resort (ÇEŞME ALTIN YUNUS)
- First private painting contest (DYO-YAŞAR EĞİTİM VE KÜLTÜR VAKFI)
- First private paint galley and arts museum (SELÇUK YAŞAR)
He has been awarded with the first rank in 23 different fields.
Selçuk Yaşar served as Honorary Consul General for Denmark in İzmir for many years.
The leader and pioneer of the agribusiness in Turkey, Selçuk Yaşar designed and put into life many significant projects aiming to improve meat and dairy products and livestock breeding.
A committed and major contributor to the sports, cultural and social events, he is also the founder of the Yaşar Eğitim ve Kültür Vakfı. Chaired by Selçuk Yaşar, the Foundation grants gratis scholarships to talented, hard-working, but underprivileged students pursuing their studies at universities, higher and secondary educational institutions.
Selçuk Yaşar has provided financial and moral support to many educational institutions and set up the first private village theatre building in Bademler in 1969. "Selçuk Yaşar Alaybey Primary Education School" in Karşıyaka, "Durmuş Yaşar Primary Education School" in Bayraklı, "Selçuk Yaşar Industrial School of Painting" in Bornova, İzmir and Yaşar Eğitim ve Kültür Vakfı Alaçatı Multi-Program High School in Alaçatı are all built by the foundation and his support.
Selçuk Yaşar published Ege Ekspres newspaper and Devir magazine and Gazete Ege paper for a while, and is also among the founders of Ege TV.
Besides being an industrialist, Selçuk Yaşar is an intellectual. He has various published works and articles in his printed and broadcast media background. 10 books and 28 message booklets of Selçuk Yaşar have been published.
He is the Chairman of the Honorary Boards of SETBIR (The Association of Dairy, Beef and Food Manufacturers and Producers in Turkey) ESIAD (Aegean Industrialists\' and Businessmen\'s Association) and KSK Karşıyaka Sports Club.
He is among the founders of TUSIAD (Turkish Industrialists\' and Businessmen\'s Association) and ESIAD (Aegean Industrialists\' and Businessmen\'s Association).
He founded Selçuk Yaşar Spor ve Eğitim Vakfı, and initiated Yaşar University.
He is a Member of the Advisory Board of BOSAD (Association of Paint Manufacturers).
Selçuk Yaşar is married and has 3 children. He speaks French and English.'
